Holy Homicide, Batman!

Ah, Baltimore! this innocent looking city has a deep dark secret... it's residents like to kill people...

I was listening to the radio on my way to work today and heard something that I thought was quite alarming. Baltimore has had 28 homicides so far this year! That is 28 murders in 25 days... does anyone else find this alarming? For those of you who are mathematically challenged, 28 homicides divided by 25 days equals... carry the 9... add the 2... more homicides than days! Being curious and having some down time at work, I thought I would research the situation a bit further. Here is what I found from my good friend wikipedia (article on Baltimore)...

"According to crime statistics there were 269 murders in Baltimore in 2005. Though this is significantly lower than the record-high 353 murders in 1993, the murder rate in Baltimore is nearly seven times the national rate, six times the rate of New York City, and three times the rate of Los Angeles."

yeah.. 6 times the rate of New York City and 3 times that of LA! The article continues..

"Though the crime situation in Baltimore is considered one of the worst in the nation, city officials are quick to point out that most violent crimes, particularly murders, are committed by people who know their victims and who are often associated with the illegal drug trade."

Most people are killed by people who know their killers? Either there are some really messed up people in Baltimore or some really polite killers who feel they need to introduce themselves before killing you. Almost makes you wonder who would want to move to such a city.

On a related note, I am still looking for a roommate for the Baltimore area starting this summer. Please let me know if you are interested.

Enough of that for now, time to switch gears to the Monica situation. A couple posts ago I talked about an email that I received from Monica. Last night she IMed me saying that I never replied to the email. I told her that I was aware of that and that I wasn't sure if it was a good idea. She then replied with a "sorry to bother you" and promptly signed off.

After she signed off, I decided I would go ahead and reply to the email. In the email I explained what I had been up to and how things were going. I then ended the letter with the following paragraph:

"I feel like I should tell you why I hesitated to send you this email. This will probably push you away again, but I'm just going to say it anyway. My feelings for you haven't changed and I'm afraid that this will be hurtful for me. I know that this may sound dumb to you, but even after two months I still miss you."

I have yet to hear back and probably will not. This ends the post for today. I hope you enjoyed the lesson on Baltimore's crime rate!
