I've decided to post a status report on my life. I thought it might be interesting to look back someday and see how I thought different components of my life were going. It is also a good way to bring anyone who may be reading this up to speed. The intent is to have a high level overview of different aspects of my life and not to get too detailed. I would also like to point out that I am a little hungover at this point which may or may not effect the content and style of this post...
work (5/5): Work is going well overall. I did "excellent" on my performance review which got me both a raise and a bonus. I also recently received a significant achievement award for the category "magnifying our values". We are doing a pilot program for a new methodology at T. Rowe Price and got the award for doing such a good job with it.
My coworkers also seem to be happy with me. I have exceeded their expectations and earned their respect. We also seem to just get along in general. We joke around and try to have fun.
Social (3/5): My social life has dramatically changed since New Years. My typical weekend now includes going out to bars with friends on Friday, crashing at their place Friday night, recovering (ugh... hangovers) on Saturday and sleeping in on Sunday. Since I started going out in Baltimore(3 times now), I've "danced" in public (usually on an elevated surface) on two separate occasions (the second was between 2 girls!), drank alcohol from a bucket, been introduced to several new people, went undeafted in Beirut at Bar Biltmore, and generally had a good time. I mention these individually because most I have not done before I started going out here.
Although I do enjoy going out and having fun at the bar on Friday nights, I could use more interaction during the week. My main form of "human" interaction during the week (outside of work) is AIM and World of Warcraft. Alyssa, Nicole, Carolyn and Mike are great, but I would like to meet more people that share some of my interests and have a closer personality to mine.
Financial (2/5): Being new to the professional world means I have a low salary. While I can't complain about making what I do fresh out of school... it doesn't leave much left over after paying bills. This is especially true when living alone. I normally a couple hundred dollars left over per month after paying bills. This does not include money spent on groceries. Basically, 2/5 means that I still have some money left over to go out, but not much more for anything else.
I know this sounds like I don't have anything in savings, but I am doing the best I can. I contribute 4% of my salary (pretax) to my retirement plan. I also contribute 4% of my salary (after tax) to the employee stock purchase plan. T. Rowe Price matches half of my contributions to these 2 items. They also put a contribution into my retirement plan at the end of the year. This contribution is between 0% and 6% of my salary depending on how well the year went for the firm. They contributed 6% in 2005.
love (-100/5): Maybe giving this a -100 is a bit overdramatic, but it gets the point across. For those of you who don't know, Monica broke up with me 2 months ago after being together for 14 months. The exact reasons are debatable, but the reason I got was "I want to be alone". I haven't really been taking the breakup very well. 2 months later I still have very strong feelings for her and miss her immensely. Monica was everything I was looking for in a girl (and more) and I somehow managed to ruin that. That is all I have to say about that right now. I'm sure you get the point without me going into it further.
This puts my overall ranking at (counting love as 0): 10/20
I think that covers the main areas of life. If you feel I should add any other categories please include them in a comment! Thanks for reading.
